With its ability to roast its enemies alive whether on the ground or in flight, the dragon would rather die in a flame of glory then be caught running away from battle. Before the war started the dragons had one motivation, which was to guard the inner catacombs of the earth. So far down that light couldn't reach, the dragons guarded treasure which was stolen from the gods themselves. Hyperion's children didn't taken kindly to this disrespect of their parents and brought down fire and brimstone from high above upon the dragons lair and eliminated their dragon king. Shattered and alone the dragons sought homes amongst the other races, with their strength and use of flight they demeaned themselves to manual labor. After several centuries of repression, the dragons staged an uprising and slaughtered their masters who couldn't not control them. They formed their own city, but found it hard to sustain it without the skills they had relied on so long and was forced to hire themselves out to the highest bidder, normally as assassins, but as long as the money was good then they would do it.
